Representing homebuilders, Steve LaMotte works to ease regulations on construction
Before the novel coronavirus pandemic shook Orange County and the rest of California, the most pressing topic of conversation was, arguably, housing.
Renters and prospective homebuyers face seemingly insurmountable prices, while many current homeowners oppose new construction that would increase housing supply and, potentially, bring down prices.
Housing has reshaped political alliances in California, causing young liberals to link arms with conservative homebuilders to form the Yes In My Backyard, or YIMBY, movement, which espouses that the key to making housing more affordable for more people is simply to build more of it. The new movement forms a counterweight to the Not In My Backyard, or NIMBY, activists that have stalled homebuilding for decades, tightening the supply of new homes and forcing prices higher.
