IRVINE, CA – Each year, the Building Industry Association, Orange County Chapter (BIA/OC) honors individuals and organizations, not working directly in the real estate industry, with a prestigious Ruby Slippers award, for demonstrating an innovative or extraordinary commitment to illuminating challenges in the home building industry or solutions to crucial housing issues in Orange County.
The Ruby Slippers award was inspired by a 1999 Tournament of Roses parade float design sponsored by the BIA of Southern California, which was based on Dorothy’s wish to return home to Kansas from the Land of Oz, in L. Frank Baum’s book, the Wizard of Oz.
Recipients, selected in nine categories, are presented with a coveted trophy, a pair of ruby slippers encased in a Plexiglas box, and receive commendation by BIA/OC leadership. Following is a list of recipients since the award was created in the categories of media, public agency, business, non-profit, elected official, education, youth inspiration, regional leadership, and environmental.
