IRVINE, CA The Building Industry Technology Academy (BITA) raised over $60,000 for its non-profit Southern California Building Industry Education Foundation through the annual Wine and Food Event this Fall at the Rancho Las Lomas Zoological Gardens and Villa. BITA is a BIA/OC developed four-year high school program currently in place at Katella and Western High Schools in Anaheim. The curriculum exposes young people to diverse career paths (labor, management, and professional services) available within the construction industry. With the shortage of skilled trade workers estimated to be at 2.3 million unfilled jobs by 2010, it is critical to encourage and properly educate interested students. BITA aims at alleviating this national issue through its meticulously structured program.
Proceeds were raised from ticket sales and donated opportunity prizes such as gift certificates to local restaurants, kitchen and home decor, spa and hotel packages which were raffled off. A silent auction featured a Bosch stainless steel refrigerator, a week long stay in a private condo in Palm Desert and other wonderful selections.
