In October, 2006, the BIA Orange County Chapter defeated an Inclusionary Housing Program in the City of Dana Point. BIA volunteers and staff were able to convince the City Council to reject an inclusionary housing policy that would have mandated all new residential development to include 15% low income housing for attached product or a $22.90 per square foot affordable housing in-lieu fee for detached residential units.

Had this proposal been approved: the cost of a 100 unit project containing 1,500 sq ft units would have been increased by $3,435,000. This is just one powerful example of how BIA/OC is helping to protect the interests of homebuilders throughout Orange County.
