Lawrence W. Jones, Jr. - Director of Education - has been with the BIA of Southern California, Orange County Chapter (BIA/OC) since February 2000. He presently serves as the Director of Education / Industry Outreach. His primary obligation is to oversee the development of the newly formed Southern California Building Industry Educational Foundation (BIEF). The mission of the foundation is to promote and support educational opportunities that provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue a career in the construction industry. The foundation supports existing training programs, provides workforce development assistance and offers job placement services. Presently, the primary program supported by BIEF is the Building Industry Technology Academy (BITA) located at Katella High School in Anaheim. While with the BIA, Lawrence’s responsibilities have included managing all aspects of BIA/OC membership, overseeing the Construction Quality Committee (CQC), the Workplace Safety Committee (WPS) and the Education Committee. While overseeing the CQC Committee he developed the “Protecting Your Home Equity” brochure that explains to home owners the negative effect construction defect litigation can have on home values. Various Builder companies, up and down the state, have circulated over 20,000 copies. He also assisted in development and implementation of the BIA of Southern California Trade Contractor Council (TCC). This council gives trade contractors an avenue to express their concerns on industry issues. Prior to his position with BIA/OC, Lawrence spent 13 years in the political arena, including five years as District Aide to Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach). Lawrence is an active and a concerned citizen. His present and past service to the community includes being involved in numerous organizations, including Citizens Against Lawsuit Abuse (CALA); California Republican Party; Riverside Republican Party Central Committee; Executive Committee member of his own Home Owners Association; Corpus Christie Catholic Church Finance Committee; Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree): and Chapman University Events Committee. While residing in Costa Mesa, Lawrence had served on the Costa Mesa Residential and Recreational Redevelopment Committee and the Ad Hoc Traffic Impact Fees Committee, following a bid for Costa Mesa City Council.Lawrence graduated from Chapman University with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science. He has continued with his education by taking numerous construction related classes at the University of California Irvine (UCI), Fullerton College and the Orange County Regional Occupational Program. Lawrence and wife, Jean, reside in Newport Beach, CA.
